Power Coalition Puts People First

Building a Strong Foundation Across Louisiana

“Local leaders in cities like Memphis and New Orleans work creatively to advance racial and economic justice every day,” says Chantel Rush, managing director of Kresge’s American Cities Program, which supports the transformation of cities to become equitable places of economic opportunity where all residents, especially those who have been historically disadvantaged, can thrive.

“In the wake of the COVID pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, we deepened our commitments to these innovative local leaders, including those in the Power Coalition, who work to build power and voice in traditionally disenfranchised Louisiana communities,” added Rush. “As the Power Coalition puts it, those directly affected by harmful policies and inequitable systems should lead the movement for change.
