Better Data Tells Full Story of How AAPI Students Fare
APIA Scholars is expanding how the higher education field understands the diverse body of Asian American Pacific Islander students while providing wrap-around services, scholarships and other crucial support.
Kresge funded the organization’s recent research on Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (NHPI) postsecondary advancement, a groundbreaking new data set on one of the most underrepresented groups on college campuses. Kresge’s Education Program support of APIA Scholars dates back more than a decade.
“As a field, we will craft better policies and build more equitable systems only if we can see the problems,” said Bill Moses, head of Kresge’s Education Program. “APIA’s research shows that access, persistence, and completion continue to be a challenge for NHPI students. Now that we can see those problems, we can start to address them.”
